SCIAA Update for Fall 2018 Innsight

November 7, 2018

Membership & Chapter Meetings

The board of the St. Christopher’s Inn Alumni Association have been hard at work this fall in an effort to revitalize the many geographical chapters of the association and boost membership.

On September 12, 2018, with the support of Br. Tim Aller, OFM, Brothers Christopher House (BCH) case manager, several long-time SCIAA members, and all current BCH residents, the Westchester County chapter met at Brothers Christopher House. What a wonderful way to encourage the men at BCH and to build community among local SCI alumni. This chapter will continue to meet on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM.

In addition, the Suffolk County Chapter held their monthly meeting at Talbot House in Bohemia, New York on September 15, 2018. This group will continue to meet on the third Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM, and all SCI alumni are welcomed.

Coffee House Fundraiser

The SCI Alumni Association presented their first fundraising Coffee House in late September. The event took place at Our Lady of Atonement Chapel at Graymoor, and featured several alumni, along with special guest musician, Matt Butler. Matt performed his recently released single St. Christopher’s Inn for the crowd.

When the fundraising event was over, all of the performers made their way down the hill to the Inn, where they treated all of the Brothers Christopher to an encore performance. All proceeds from the event were donated to St. Christopher’s inn by the SCIAA. In addition to support the Inn directly with donations, the SCIAA are often called upon to sponsor flights for Brothers Christopher who complete treatment at the Inn, and are in need of transportation for follow up care at a recommended facility in Florida.

Upcoming Events

There are several upcoming opportunities for SCI alumni to be of service to the Brothers Christopher at the Inn, as well as to fellowship with and encourage each other. Alumni are always in attendance at the Inn for Thanksgiving dinner, and assist the kitchen with serving meals. A huge alumni population are always present at the annual Christmas Play, which stars current Brothers Christopher and tells a story of addiction and recovery at St. Christopher’s Inn. And New Year’s Eve is always a highlight when the Alumni provide a pizza party for the men, and ring in the New Year with the men, celebrating in advance what they hope will be a year of sobriety and recovery.
