Roller hockey fundraiser in March will help those in the throes of addiction
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Tom Needham Foundation will host a charity hockey tournament on March 7, at the Inman Sports Complex in Edison, with all proceeds benefiting St. Christopher’s Inn, a residential substance use treatment center in Garrison, New York.
The Tom Needham Hockey Classic, held in memory of Hugh Donohue, will feature six teams competing in a four-on-four “Iron Man” double-elimination format. Admission costs $10 per person, and the event will include food sales and raffles with prizes including lottery scratch-off baskets, a 50/50 drawing, gift certificates and gift baskets.
“The Tom Needham Hockey Classic is a vital fundraiser for St. Christopher’s Inn,” said Audrey Warn, director of annual giving and grants for the facility in a press release. “It has helped us raise funds and awareness for our vital program of recovery, saving men’s lives and helping them and their families heal from the disease of addiction. We are so grateful!”
A year ago, an event organized by the Tom Needham Foundation — and Tommy Needham, the founder’s son — honored Needham’s late cousin, James “Jimmy” Barry. Barry was 31 when he died in a crash in the summer of 2024.
