Welcome to St. Christopher’s Inn

“Where hope and compassion meet.”

For more than a century, St. Christopher’s Inn (SCI) has been a place of welcome, healing and spiritual renewal.

Rooted in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, we receive each man with dignity and respect.

Recovery begins gently — with listening hearts, steady guidance, and the belief that every man is good and worthy of love and respect.

Arrival and Admissions

We are located in Putnam County, NY.

  • 1 hour north of New York City
  • 2 hours south of Albany

Accessible by Metro North Train Station

Upon arrival, all men are greeted by our Friars and Admissions team and begin the process of “intake” which includes some paperwork an evaluation by our Medical team and introduction to our Security team.

We often have a resident who volunteers their time to welcome new men arriving at the Inn.

These interactions are the start of becoming a member of our recovery community fostering a sense of belonging and fellowship.

All men (“Brothers Christopher”) are assigned to a specific ‘track’ that they stay with for group sessions, meals and other activities tied to recovery.

During the first week, we give each resident time to become familiar with our grounds and amenities. This also includes workshops, lectures, individual counseling and a vocation placement.

Counseling

Each week, men participate in group sessions and individual sessions with their counselors.

Treatment is led by social workers, Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPAS) and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASACS).

Vocational Services

Alongside clinical treatment, counseling and therapeutic programming, Brothers Christopher are invited to participate in vocational opportunities that bring structure, purpose and dignity to daily life at the Inn.

These experiences allow men to contribute to recovery for everyone while also developing practical skills, strengthening relationships and rediscovering confidence in their abilities.

Vocational services support residents through job readiness, education, and skill-building.

Many of the residents who complete treatment at SCI receive entry-level certification (“Serv Safe Food Handler”) that can help men find employment in food services, including restaurants, cafeterias, or catering companies.

The Scenic Hudson Valey

Weekly group walks guided by staff are a popular activity among our Brothers Christopher. The beauty of nature on the Holy Mountain touches men’s spirits.

Meals & Nourishment

Food is more than sustenance at the Inn: it is an expression of care.

Nutritious meals are prepared daily using fresh ingredients sourced locally and are made with intention to help restore and heal.

Gathering around dining room tables three times a day becomes an act of fellowship and gratitude to our benefactors.

Faith & Spirituality

Men can attend Holy Mass each day (optional). They can visit the Chapel for their own quiet reflection or meditation at any time.

Men from different faiths are provided with spiritual resources to grow in their own beliefs.

Spiritual Direction

Substance use is a physical, mental and spiritual disease. That is why we provide trained spiritual guides who accompany residents in their awakening to their own unique spirituality or religious beliefs. Helping men, whom we call Brother Christopher, to become "at-one" in body, mind and spirit.

Aftercare Support & SCI's Alumni Association

The St. Christopher’s Inn Alumni Association (SCIAA) is an independent nonprofit that helps former residents and program participants stay connected through fellowship, service, and ongoing recovery support. Alumni gather regularly to strengthen each other and encourage current residents.

Throughout the year, SCIAA hosts reunions, family gatherings, memorial events, and its annual Alumni Picnic, bringing the recovery community together to build lasting connections and support one another.
