St. Christopher’s Inn Offers New MOUD Services as Part of NIH HEAL Initiative

August 4, 2021

St. Christopher’s Inn is participating in the National Institutes of Health’s Helping to End Addiction Long- term (NIH HEAL) Initiative, an aggressive, multi-agency effort to speed scientific solutions to stem the national opioid crisis, including increasing access to treatment with life-saving medications for opioid use disorder, or MOUD.

Treatment with MOUD is a medical standard of care for those with opioid use disorder. Without medication, people who stop opioids often go back to using, and stopping and restarting opioid use increases the chance of dying from an overdose.

St. Christopher’s Inn is helping improve MOUD access and outcomes by offering remote Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services and remote Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) services. MAT is the use of medications, together with counseling and behavioral therapies, to treat opioid and other substance use disorders. MAT helps support and sustain recovery and can prevent overdose. CRPAs provide non-clinical peer support services and Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) to support the recovery goals of those in treatment for opioid and other substance use disorders.

To learn more about St. Christopher’s Inn’s new MOUD services, please contact Michael Valkys, CRPA, at 845-642-9192. All information is kept strictly confidential.
