St. Christophers Inn Winter Extravaganza
As darkness fell over the March sky on the Holy Mountain, the men of St. Christopher’s Inn, a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, gathered in Our Lady of the Atonement Chapel for their annual Winter Extravaganza. This year’s theme was Franciscan Idol, and the Brothers Christopher—the men receiving care at the Inn—showcased their many talents from musical compositions, poetry and spoken word performances to sketch and standup comedy sets. It is always a great night of celebration, reunion and joy as many of the Friars and Sisters of Atonement, members of the St. Christopher’s Inn Alumni Association (SCIAA), staff and invited guests are in the audience to cheer on the performers.
Research indicates that participation in any form of creative expression helps the recovery process. In fact, St. Christopher’s Inn has a robust Creative Arts Therapy program that provides a variety of artistic and expressive experiences. The Brothers Christopher, with the help of a few staff members, produce, plan and organize this original event, further enhancing community and team building.
The evening ends with a jubilant finale—a sing along of Shine a Light—the famed Rolling Stones song. Brothers Christopher link arm in arm, audience members join in and the joy is palpable and healing for everyone!
May the good Lord shine a light on you
Make every song your favorite tune
May the good Lord shine a light on you
Warm like the evening—Rolling Stones
