Stephen Shapiro, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Shapiro brings 33 years of experience in the addiction field and 40 years in internal medicine to St. Christopher’s Inn. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Shapiro performs history and physical exams, and runs a daily sick call clinic. He supervises a medically supervised outpatient withdrawal program to detox clients from alcohol and opiates. He also reviews bloodwork and medical tests, with an emphasis on preventive medicine. Dr. Shapiro specializes in medication assisted treatment, and spends a great deal of time educating patients and staff on the availability of new and exciting treatments for addiction and recovery.

Today, I am a sober man. I live an honest and simple life. I’m a reliable, employable productive member of society. I have dignity and self-worth and even self-love. All of these things are a direct result of the care and guidance given to me by the Friars and the staff at St. Christopher’s Inn. Some people call it a homeless shelter. I call it home.
