Board of Directors Dinner
THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 2019
On June 13, 2019, the Fifteenth Annual Board of Directors Dinner took place at the historic Gotham Hall in midtown Manhattan.
The Board of Directors, Friars and Staff of the Inn were very proud to honor the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement at this year’s dinner as St. Christopher’s Inn celebrates 110 years of caring for men in need.
Mr. David G. McWilliams, President & CEO, JRM Construction Management and 2018 SCI Board of Directors Dinner Honoree, served as the Honorary Dinner Chair for the event.
Fr. Dennis Polanco, SA, President and Spiritual Director of the Inn shared, “Mother Lurana White, SA, who founded the Society of the Atonement with Servant of God Fr. Paul Wattson, SA, and the Sisters of the Atonement were instrumental in the founding of St. Christopher’s Inn. Since the Sisters live at the entrance to Graymoor, they were the first to see and greet the ‘men of the road’ who came to Graymoor in need of food, shelter and prayer. In fact, it was the Sisters who first called the men ‘Brothers Christopher,’ or ‘Christ bearers.’”
Currently, the men of the Inn help with the upkeep of the grounds for the Sisters, as well as help in their kitchen and their retreat house with cleaning and preparation, the same way they work in the Graymoor Spiritual Life Center and the St. Paul Friary at top of the hill at Graymoor. Time and again the men thank the Friars and Sisters of the Atonement for helping them find acceptance and healing during their time at St. Christopher’s Inn.
“We are so grateful for the presence and the assurance that the Friars and the Sisters of Atonement offer as they welcome the men to their home at Graymoor,” said Sandra Iberger, Executive Director/CEO.” “Franciscan hospitality is equally important to the professional counseling and medical treatment at St. Christopher’s Inn for healing of the mind, body and spirit of all the Brothers Christopher.”
